Visit to Durham University Physics Department and Greys College

On Friday 24th March, 13 y9 students got the opportunity to visit arguably the best university in the North east of England, to help inspire them to study science at degree level.

During the trip students got an introductory physics talk by Professor Peter Swift where they got to find out what is was like to be a student studying physics. Students then got hands on in the labs and took part in an exciting practical investigation using X-ray machines.

After lunch Students got a tour of the campus, had the opportunity to see the accommodation and learn more about university life.

The activities throughout the day inspired students and promoted the idea of having a physics related career in the future.

Some quotes from the students:

“The x-ray machine was really helpful! It helped me make sense of the theory we had learned in class”

“It gave an insight into what it would be like to complete a degree in physics, it was very motivating and inspired me to consider this route.”
