Regional Panathlon Finals

On Tuesday 6th June I had the privilege to take 13 year 9 sports leaders to the Regional Panathlon Swimming Finals held at Ponds Forge National Swimming Centre in Sheffield. They were selected to attend the event by Tony Waymouth (lead Panathlon sports co-ordinator) due to their outstanding leadership at a previous event.

The leaders ran the event and were even in the pool to help the disabled competitors feel safe and offer encouragement to them. Charlotte, one of our students, was interviewed and she said the following:

“This is my third Panathlon as a Young Leader and it’s really rewarding. It’s amazing to spend time with the kids here, adapting and challenging them. They really appreciate it. The different skills you learn and being a leader for them is an amazing experience. I give them loads of encouragement and urge them on, as that’s the way to get them to do their best.”

After the event, Tony Waymouth sent the following message about the leaders:

“Thanks again for such brilliant leaders today. They are a credit to the school and the community.”

These young leaders have been invited to lead a further two panathlon events this year.
