Teesside School Sports Council Awards Evening

Northfield hosted the annual Teesside School Sports Council Awards evening on Wednesday 22nd March. Yet again we were very well represented.

To be nominated you must be ranked amongst the top nationally in your sport. Nominations are received from schools in Stockton, Middlesbrough, Hartlepool, Redcar and Cleveland. Our guest of honour this year was Craig Hignett, well known in the North East for playing with Middlesbrough, Darlington, Hartlepool and even a brief spell with Billingham Synthonia.

In the male Sports Personality Award Alex and Josh were nominated for their excellence in Ice Hockey and Will for Table Tennis. In the Female Sports Personality Awards we were represented by Alice for cross country, Beth and Megan for football, Sophie for table tennis and Ellie for Tetrathlon (horse riding, shooting, running and swimming). Our girls’ badminton (coached by Mrs Lamb) were nominated for the team prize.

Although Northfield has won both the Female personality and Team prizes for the past two years, we were unsuccessful this year. However, we didn’t go home without any silverware. Steve Burge, who retired last summer, was awarded the Carl Smith Lifetime Achievement Award.
