The Rainbow Flag Award – Northfield School Judged Outstanding!

The Rainbow Flag Award is a national quality assurance framework for all schools and colleges, focusing on LGBT+, (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, plus other related identities), inclusion and visibility. The Rainbow Flag Award encourages a whole organisation approach to LGBT+ inclusion, as well as developing strategies to combat LGBTphobic bullying.

Northfield School is committed to improving the lives of all the young people that we work with, as well as LGBT+ young people in our care, those from LGBT+ families, and LGBT+ staff members. For the last 12 months Northfield has been working towards achieving the Rainbow Flag Award – and has just been judged outstanding in all areas!

"The attitude towards LGBT+ has really improved in school. We have a GSA (Gay Straight Alliance) for any student who would like a safe and friendly place to meet, regardless of their gender and sexuality.
Additionally, staff have shown support by wearing a Rainbow Lanyard. This is reassuring to students as it makes us feel like we have somewhere to go to and someone to talk to if necessary. All of this means that there is a different attitude in school – very much more understanding and supportive!"
